Known inside out.
Six hundred weddings in, these are some of my favourite venues.
Bellingham Castle

A stunning 17th century castle set on a 17-acre estate on the banks of the River Glyde, at the gateway to the Cooley Mountains. Midway between Belfast and Dublin — around an hour from each — and just 40 minutes from Dublin Airport. Beautiful inside and out, with so many spaces and options that no two weddings here ever feel the same.
Exclusively hired for your wedding day — the entire castle and grounds are yours. Approved for civil ceremonies, humanist ceremonies, spiritual ceremonies and civil partnerships, with the option to hold your ceremony indoors or outside on the terrace. Run by owners Ciara and Patrick, who are genuinely brilliant at what they do.
Bellingham gives you so many options it's almost difficult to choose. My favourite spot is the little bridges overlooking the water — intimate enough to feel private but close enough that portraits don't take you away from your guests for long.
Ciara and Patrick's team have a lovely habit of following us down with a platter of canapés so the couple don't miss out while we're taking photographs. It's a small thing but it means the world on a busy wedding day. Inside, the drawing rooms and library are flooded with natural light. And there's a little kitchen downstairs with tea and coffee on tap all day — I may have sneaked in there once or twice between shots.
Darver Castle

A 15th century castle set on 50 acres of parkland and wooded grounds in the rolling countryside of County Louth. One hour from Dublin, 45 minutes from Belfast. Lovingly restored by the Carville family and dedicated exclusively to weddings — one per day, ensuring complete privacy for you and your guests.
Fully licensed for civil ceremonies, civil partnerships, humanist and spiritual ceremonies. Indoor ceremony room seats up to 150 guests. Outdoor ceremony for up to 280 guests, weather permitting.
Darver is one of those venues where you're always guaranteed an amazing welcome. Mary, Aidan and Adrienne make everyone feel at home from the moment they arrive.
It's not as grand as some of the bigger castle venues, but that's part of its charm. It's warm, it's homely, and the little room where you get your tea and coffee feels a bit like being at your granny's — if your granny happened to live in a castle. Wide open spaces, covered areas, little bridges, a beautiful courtyard and a stunning ceremony room. Whatever the weather, there's always somewhere great to work.
Clandeboye Lodge

An eclectically stylish hotel venue set in the heart of County Down, just minutes from Bangor and a short drive from Belfast. Built around a beautiful 19th century schoolhouse, Clandeboye Lodge has a distinctive personality — warm, contemporary and unlike any other wedding venue in Northern Ireland.
Fully licensed for civil, religious, humanist and spiritual ceremonies. Multiple ceremony options including the Blackwood Suite — a beautiful little ceremony space that looks remarkably like an old church inside. Dogs are welcome at the ceremony and drinks reception.
The Blackwood Suite is one of the most characterful ceremony rooms in Northern Ireland.
Clandeboye is so handy — practically on Belfast's doorstep, and once you're there everything you need is right on-site. After the ceremony you move straight upstairs or downstairs depending on your numbers. Photo locations are literally just out the front door or out the back — no travelling between locations. The food is always good, things run smoothly, and the staff work quietly behind the scenes making sure everything flows without anyone feeling rushed.
The Carriage Rooms at Montalto

A handsome 19th century converted threshing mill set on the 400-acre Montalto Estate in the heart of County Down. One of Northern Ireland's most celebrated wedding venues, run by the Wilson family. One wedding per day, every time.
Licensed for civil, religious and humanist ceremonies. Indoor ceremonies in the lower suite — the beautifully restored former sawmill with distinctive stone walls. Outdoor ceremonies in the Walled Garden, with its beautiful glasshouse as a backdrop.
The Carriage Rooms has a real luxury feel — generous spaces both indoors and out, and a flexibility that means no two weddings there look quite the same.
I have brilliant memories of couples getting stuck in and joining in with garden games before slipping away for some portraits. Being connected to the wider Montalto Estate Gardens means there's even more space to explore. On summer evenings after the meal, I love taking the couple for a short walk down to the edge of the lake to catch that last bit of evening light. One practical thing worth knowing — the band can set up downstairs while the meal is happening upstairs. No hour-long gap. Guests just head downstairs and it's ready to go.
Ballyscullion Park

A grand private estate set on over 100 acres of parkland, ancient woodland and manicured gardens in the heart of Mid-Ulster — 35 minutes from Belfast, 50 minutes from Derry. Family-run with a warmth and personal touch that sets it apart. One wedding per day, exclusive use every time.
Licensed for civil and religious ceremonies. Indoor ceremonies in the elegant Stables Room for up to 100 guests. Outdoor ceremonies in the Strawberry Garden in the heart of the Walled Garden. The reception and evening party take place in the luxurious glass marquee.
Rosalind and her team provide the warmest welcome — and if you love flowers and plants, this is the place for you.
The Walled Garden is beautiful and sheltered, full of little nooks and corners for guests to explore and for the two of you to have photographs in. One of my favourite spots is the tree swing. At the last wedding I photographed there, masses of buttercups had been left to grow tall and wild throughout the garden. The marquee is bright and airy with a beautiful soft light that's incredibly flattering in photographs.
Magheramorne Estate

A Grade B1 listed 19th century estate nestled in 42 acres of woodland, formal gardens and manicured grounds on the Antrim Coast, overlooking Larne Lough. Just 30 minutes from Belfast. NI Wedding Awards Most Romantic Venue 2025. For every couple that marries here, a tree is planted in the gardens.
Licensed for civil and religious ceremonies. Outdoor ceremonies in the stunning formal gardens, or indoors in the grand Ballroom, the intimate Library or Drawing Room. Catering exclusively by Jane's Kitchen. Dogs welcome.
Magheramorne is one of my favourite venues to photograph. The sheer variety of spaces means I feel like I've never quite scratched the surface.
Formal gardens with terraces, water features and statues, woodland trails, streams, ponds and waterfalls, all with that stunning backdrop of Larne Lough. The getting ready room is a photographer's dream — huge bright windows and a giant full-length mirror. Magheramorne holds a special place for me. It's the only venue I've managed to fall into a fountain at — right in front of my couple. Dry camera, dry clothes, back shooting within ten minutes because I always carry backup.
Old Rectory Killyman

A hidden gem nestled in 13 acres of mature grounds in the heart of County Tyrone. An 18th century Georgian rectory and stone barn lovingly restored by owners Emma and Paul into one of Northern Ireland's most unique and characterful wedding venues. One wedding per day, exclusively yours.
Licensed for civil, religious and humanist ceremonies. Multiple ceremony options including the botanical-inspired glass ceremony room added in 2023. A purpose-built getting ready facility — The Chalet — is available for the morning prep. Day 2 celebrations available at sister property, Bishops Bar.
As venues go, Old Rectory Killyman is world class. The variety of spaces means it works beautifully for any size or vibe of wedding.
An amazing ceremony room, a stunning function room, a cosy bar in the barn, loads of outdoor spaces and some wonderfully quirky semi-outdoor spaces in between. The grounds are beautiful and give you so many options photographically. The personal service you get from Emma, Paul and the team is second to none — you're very well looked after. They've also just added a brand new getting ready facility — The Chalet — which is a brilliant addition for the wedding morning.
Drenagh House Estate

A magnificent Georgian mansion built in 1837 by renowned architect Charles Lanyon for the McCausland family — and a family home ever since. Set in stunning parkland near Limavady. Keep an eye out for the peacocks roaming the grounds.
Licensed for civil, religious and humanist ceremonies. The Moon Garden — one of the most romantic outdoor ceremony spaces in Northern Ireland — seats up to 140 guests. Indoors, ceremonies can be held in front of the grand staircase. A lovely tradition at Drenagh — couples cut their wedding cake with the Drenagh sword.
I went to school near Drenagh — and growing up, a friend used to brag about sneaking in to climb the trees. Times have changed.
Now it hosts some of the best wedding parties I've ever photographed. The team are absolute characters, completely committed to making sure you and your guests have the best time — and by the time they introduce you into the marquee, the room is absolutely buzzing. The sunken garden is one of the most unique and beautiful spots at any venue I shoot at. The grand staircase is incredible.
Killeavy Castle Estate

A restored 19th century castle set as the centrepiece of 365 acres of mixed farm and woodland in the shadow of Slieve Gullion, County Armagh. Just ten minutes from Newry and an hour from both Belfast and Dublin airports. Overlooking the Ring of Gullion with the Mourne and Cooley Mountains as a backdrop.
Licensed for civil, religious and humanist ceremonies with multiple settings to choose from — the Walled Garden, the Castle Pavilion, the Hotel Garden Lounge or the woodlands. On-site spa, two restaurants including an AA Rosette restaurant, and a dedicated wedding coordinator for every couple.
Killeavy is a compact little castle absolutely bursting with character. Even though it sits on the same grounds as the hotel, the setting feels completely exclusive.
The grounds are more rustic and wild than you might expect, which works brilliantly for photographs. There's a rawness to it that you don't get at more manicured venues. Be prepared — depending on the time of year you might find yourself sharing the frame with a cow, a peacock or an Irish Wolfhound. Honestly, it just adds to the charm.
Old Court

A breathtaking private estate on the shores of Strangford Lough, beside the picturesque village of Strangford. Dating back to the 16th century, Old Court is one of Northern Ireland's most quietly magical wedding venues — a 17th century chapel, lovingly restored stables, a yurt-inspired banquet hall, a private harbour and boathouse, and several acres of natural gardens sweeping down to the lough shore.
Licensed for civil, religious and humanist ceremonies. Exchange vows in the beautiful on-site chapel or down at the water's edge with the lough as your backdrop. Catering is flexible — choose from a list of approved caterers. The Boathouse at the private harbour is available for the couple's wedding night.
Old Court is one of those venues that genuinely stops you in your tracks.
The estate church is perfectly sized — intimate, full of character, stunning stained glass — and the moment the ceremony ends and the couple walks down the steps to the shores of Strangford Lough, the whole day seems to slow down. At one wedding here, the caterers had set up right on the shore cooking paella while the guests gathered around in the sunshine. And making its way along the water's edge, completely unbothered by the whole occasion, was a baby seal. Just there. Watching. It's that kind of venue.
