Booking & getting started

When should I book?

As soon as you have a date and venue confirmed. I shoot 40 weddings a year and popular dates — particularly Saturdays from May through September — go quickly. Some couples book two years in advance. If your date is in the next six months, get in touch anyway as I may still have availability.

I'd also encourage you to book your photographer early in the planning process generally. We can help guide a lot of your other decisions — recommending suppliers, advising on timing and logistics. Because we're there from the very beginning of the day right through to late evening, we get a pretty good overview of what it's like to work with most of the other people involved in your wedding.

How do I check your availability?

Hit the Check My Date button and drop me your date and venue. I'll come back to you quickly.

How do I secure my date?

A deposit of £350 confirms your booking, along with a signed wedding agreement.

What happens after I book?

You'll have the option to book a pre-wedding engagement shoot — a great opportunity to get comfortable in front of the camera. Bring the dog, the motorbike, whatever makes it yours. Honestly — I always feel a little more excited turning up on a wedding morning when I already know the couple through their engagement shoot. It feels like catching up with friends.

Generally you won't hear much from me until about three months before your wedding, when I'll send you a questionnaire. It covers everything — locations, timings, who's who, and a full list of the photographs I typically take. I'm always available for a phone call or a meeting at any stage if you'd prefer to go through things earlier.

Then, about a week before your wedding, I'll go over everything you've submitted and give you a quick call — just to make sure nothing has changed and let you know I'll see you on the day.

How many weddings do you take per year?

Forty. That's been my number for fifteen years. It means I give every couple proper time and attention, I never feel like I'm rushing from one wedding to the next, and it gives me enough time in between to work on producing some beautiful albums.

On the day

What time do you arrive?

Typically around an hour and a half with you during the wedding morning prep. If your partner is getting ready at the same location, I can pop out to them for half an hour too. If it's a same-sex wedding and you're both getting ready in the same location, I'll split my time evenly. If your partner is getting ready somewhere further away, adding a second photographer is a great option.

What do you wear?

Waistcoat and bowtie for most of the year — smart enough to blend in with your guests, handy if I end up in the background of your video. On the very hottest days I'll swap to chinos and an open neck shirt, but the bowtie usually makes a comeback regardless.

Do you do family group photographs?

Honestly? These are often the photographs that become the most valuable over time. Getting everyone who matters in the same frame, on one of the most important days of your lives — that's something you'll treasure for generations.

Nobody wants to spend their wedding day lining up for photographs. So I keep this part fast and fun. I have a tried and tested flow that moves quickly and gets great results — and you can add any extra groupings you'd like on top of that.

In the run-up to your wedding I'll ask about your family so we can put a list together that works for you. Every family is different — some have straightforward dynamics, others are a little more complicated.

How long do couple portraits take?

Not long. I work fast and keep things fun — and most couples are surprised by how much they enjoy it. As a rough guide: family photographs typically take around ten minutes, bridal party another ten, and couple portraits anywhere from ten to forty minutes depending on how many favourite spots you'd like to include.

Do you use flash?

I use a whole range of lighting techniques depending on what the day throws at me — and I choose them based on what gets you the best photographs, not out of habit.

On great days with good natural light, I'll use that. I might bring flash out during speeches if the sun is blazing in through the windows behind you. In winter, venues often have mixed lighting — a bit of flash gives more natural skin tones. Occasionally I'll use flash creatively, to light up a venue or add drama to an image.

I shoot a lot of winter weddings, and having the knowledge and the kit means you don't need to worry about what the weather's going to do.

What if it rains?

We roll with it. I bring large white golf umbrellas with me and mine are usually closer to hand than anyone else's on the day. We'll have a wet weather plan — and we can work indoors and still get creative, interesting and beautiful photographs whatever the weather does outside.

Here's a little incentive to add evening coverage — if it's rained all day, you often get a beautiful sunset in that window before the dancing starts. Some of the most stunning portraits I've ever taken have happened in exactly that moment.

Do you have backup equipment?

Always. Backup cameras, backup lighting, and — learned from experience — backup clothing. I'm also a member of the PPANI which provides emergency backup cover from fellow professionals if anything serious were ever to go wrong.

How do you keep our photographs safe?

Backed up from the moment I start shooting. I shoot to two memory cards simultaneously, so there's an instant duplicate of everything from the very first frame.

If I'm staying for the evening, I'll download and make a copy during dinner. When I get home, I download again and back up to a separate drive which lives in my vehicle — so there's never a single point of failure. At any given point after your wedding, your photographs exist in multiple locations at once.

Once your online gallery is delivered, that adds another layer. You can download your full gallery and keep your own copies — I'd really encourage you to do that.

Can we give you a shot list?

Three months before your wedding you'll receive a worksheet to fill in. It asks who's who in your family, includes a full list of the photographs I typically take, and gives you space to add anything extra. Between your family information and that list, we'll have everything covered without needing a separate shot list on the day. For the rest of the day, the best photographs happen when I'm watching and anticipating, not working through a checklist.

Do you shoot same-sex weddings and multicultural weddings?

Yes, happily. Every couple is welcome.

After the wedding

When do we get our photographs?

A sneak peek on WhatsApp within 48 hours — usually sooner. Your full edited gallery is delivered within six weeks. If you'd like everything within one week, the Express Delivery add-on is available for £300.

How many photographs will we receive?

I don't promise exact numbers, but here's a rough guide. From a two hour micro wedding, around 200–250 photographs. Shorter coverage or a winter wedding, closer to 500. A full twelve hour plus day, 800 or more.

I spend a lot of time going through everything on a large screen, selecting the very best images so you're not overwhelmed with hundreds of near-identical photographs. Every image is individually edited for colour, tone and exposure.

How do we access our photographs?

Through a private, password-protected online gallery. You can view, download and share from there. Available for one year after your wedding, extendable for a small annual fee.

Can we print and share our photographs?

Yes. Your digital files come with a personal use licence — you can print them, share them online, and make copies for friends and family.

Will our wedding be featured on your blog or social media?

Your privacy is completely respected. By default I may feature wedding photographs on my blog — but if you'd prefer to keep your photographs completely private, just let me know.

A private wedding photography agreement can be arranged before booking. Your photographs will never appear on my website, blog or any other platform without your explicit permission. If privacy is important to you, mention it when you get in touch.

Albums

Do we need to order an album when we book?

No — you can add an album at any time. That said, album prices are subject to change so the price at the time of booking is always the best price.

Where are the albums made?

All three of my album types are handcrafted in Italy.

How does the album design process work?

You select your favourite photographs from your online gallery and share them with me. I'll put together a first draft layout along with cover material and colour suggestions to match the themes of your day. Most couples are happy with the first draft and go straight to print — but if you'd like changes, you have two rounds of revisions available.

Travel & practical

Where are you based and how far do you travel?

I'm based in Lisburn and cover all of Northern Ireland and the border counties — Donegal, Cavan, Monaghan, Louth and Meath — without any additional travel costs. For weddings further afield in the Republic of Ireland or the UK, I'll add a travel and accommodation fee on an individual basis.

Are you insured?

Yes. Full public liability and professional indemnity insurance.

Do you recommend videographers?

I work best alongside videographers who take a documentary approach — letting the day unfold naturally rather than directing it. If you're looking for recommendations, get in touch and I'll send you my preferred suppliers list.

Pricing & payment

What's included in the Signature Day package?

Full coverage from wedding morning prep through to speeches before the meal, a WhatsApp sneak peek within 48 hours, a slideshow of 60–100 photographs set to music, all edited digital files with personal use licence, a private online gallery delivered within six weeks (extendable), and pre-wedding consultation and timeline planning.

What add-ons are available?

Evening coverage, a second photographer, an engagement shoot, express delivery, rolls of analogue film, and a photo booth. All add-ons are £300 each, with the photo booth at £350.

If you're adding an album, you can include parent copy albums. A set of two 8×6" parent copies is £300 with the Small or Large Storybook. For the Coffee Table Book, a single full size parent copy is available for £400.

How does payment work?

A deposit of £350 secures your date. The balance is due on your wedding day — most couples do a bank transfer a couple of weeks beforehand, whatever works best.

Is the deposit refundable?

The deposit is non-refundable as it secures your date exclusively for you. If you need to move your date, get in touch — hopefully I'll be available on your new date and I'll look to carry your deposit across. And if for any reason I'm not available, I have a brilliant network of photographer friends and between us we'll do our best to make sure you're sorted.
